The Hayling College is a happy, caring and safe place where good working relationships between pupils, staff and parents are at the heart of our successful work. We have very high expectations of ourselves and all our students to flourish and achieve their very best in all that they undertake. All pupils are expected to work very hard, practice and persevere within a supportive and nurturing environment.
Through our mantra: ‘Happy, Healthy, High Performing’ our focus is to ensure that all our students leave us as very well qualified young citizens, fully prepared for their next steps and ambitious to make significant contribution in society. I very much look forward to meeting and working with you.

Another reason behind our new phone arrangements for September which is just as important as what happens in lessons is that being phone free at break and lunchtime matters too.
They are opportunities for young people to talk face-to-face, laugh, play sport, join activities, resolve the occasional disagreement, make new friends and simply spend time together.
From September, phones brought into The Hayling College will be securely stored in each tutor group's lockable phone box from morning tutor time until afternoon tutor time.
That creates a simple and consistent expectation for everyone: nobody needs to wonder who is messaging them, what has appeared on social media or what everyone else is looking at.
And our approach is increasingly the norm. The Children's Commissioner for England's major survey, covering around 19,000 schools and colleges, found that 90% of secondary schools already had policies limiting mobile phone use during the school day.
Our ambition is straightforward: school should be somewhere young people can look up from a screen and engage with the people and opportunities immediately around them.
We hope families will help us establish that culture positively from day one.

📵 Why are we becoming phone-free during the school day?
Thanks to the site team who are busy getting ready for September getting tutor groups fitted out with our new phone boxes
We all think that one of the most valuable things we can give young people at school is the opportunity to be fully present.
Present in a lesson.
Present in a conversation.
Present with their friends.
Present at lunch, on the sports field, in a rehearsal or when trying something new.
Mobile phones are remarkable pieces of technology, but notifications, messages and the temptation to check what is happening online can compete constantly for our attention.
The latest Department for Education guidance is clear that schools should be mobile-phone-free throughout lessons, transitions, breaktimes and lunchtimes.
National data also shows why consistency matters: in the 2024/25 National Behaviour Survey, 58% of secondary pupils reported mobile phones being used without permission in at least some lessons, rising to 65% at Key Stage 4.
From September, pupils at The Hayling College will therefore place their switched-off phone in their tutor group's secure lockable box during morning tutor time and collect it at afternoon tutor time.
It isn't about suggesting that technology is bad. Technology is an important part of modern life and education.
It is about creating six or seven hours each day in which our pupils can concentrate on being pupils.

📱 A reminder for September: our new mobile phone arrangements
As we prepare to welcome pupils back to school we wanted to remind families about an important change to our mobile phone procedures.
From the first day of term, every tutor group will have its own secure, lockable phone box.
During morning tutor time, pupils who bring a mobile phone to school will switch it off and place it in their tutor group's box.
The box will then be locked and stored securely for the school day.
Pupils will collect their phones during tutor time at the end of the day, ready for their journey home.
This means pupils can still have the reassurance of carrying a phone to and from school, while the school day itself becomes genuinely phone-free.
The principle is simple: when our pupils are in school, we want their attention on learning, friendships, conversation and all the opportunities around them.
This approach also reflects the Department for Education's statutory guidance for September 2026, which says schools should be mobile-phone-free environments by default throughout the school day.
Over the coming week or so we will share a little more about why we are making this change and the benefits we hope it will bring.

🕣 Results collection: 8:30am–11:00am
📍 Location: Main Hall
➡️ Please enter the school site through the gates and enter the building via the canteen.
Senior staff will be available throughout the morning to discuss results and offer support if needed.

📣 Proudly Hayling 📣
As another incredible school year comes to an end, today we came together for one of our favourite traditions – our Final Whole School House Celebration Assembly.
It was a chance to celebrate everything that makes The Hayling College such a special place: achievement, resilience, kindness, teamwork and the remarkable community we've built together.
This year has been packed with unforgettable moments. From success in the classrooms, sports, performing arts as well as an amazing Activities Week, welcoming and producing one of the best school shows we've ever seen with Sister Act Jr., our pupils have continually stepped outside their comfort zones and achieved incredible things.
Today's assembly recognised our top merit earners, Teacher Hero nominees, fundraising champions, House competition winners, Sports Day successes and achievements across every area of school life. We were also treated to fantastic performances including a number from the cast of Sister Act Jr., reminding us once again of the extraordinary talent within our school community.
We also took time to thank colleagues who are leaving us this summer. Extra special thanks go to Mrs Price and Mrs Wooller for their dedication, care and commitment to The Hayling College. Between them they have given 35 years + of service, supporting generations of young people. We wish them every happiness for the future, and they will always be part of the Hayling family.
As we look ahead to September, we're excited to introduce new opportunities as we continue to help every pupil thrive.
To all of our young people, staff, families and governors, thank you for making this another unforgettable year.
